VOLUNTEER AT THE MONTCLAIR TOWNSHIP ANIMAL SHELTER
Thank you for your interest in volunteering! Current opportunities include Cat, Cage and Kennel Care, Dog Walking and Fundraising, Education and Administrative Tasks.
Cat, Cage and Kennel Care: Minimum age is 16 years.
Cat and cat cage volunteers work each morning before the shelter opens to the public, performing critical tasks to keep our cats healthy and happy while they are at the shelter. Volunteers will help sterilizing cages, washing food bowls and litter boxes, sweeping and mopping the floor, etc. There will be opportunity to interact with the cats while they are out of their cages.
Kennel care volunteers help by keeping the kennels clean and refreshed for dogs awaiting their forever homes, and help with dishes and laundry. Kennel care hours are available between 9:30 am to 11:30, 7 days per week.
In order to volunteer for Cat, Cage and Kennel Care, you must:
1. Be 16 years of age or older;
2. First attend a required two hour volunteer orientation session. Orientation sessions are held every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the shelter building located at 77 North Willow Street, Montclair. No reservations are required.
3. If you are between the ages of 16 and 18, bring the attached parental waiver form to the orientation.
4. Wear shelter-appropriate attire which includes: closed shoes (no crocs or sandals), socks, long pants, long or short-sleeve tops (no tank tops). Clothing that can be discarded if gets bleached suggested. This is for your safety and the safety of our animals.

Dog Walkers: Minimum age is 18 years.

To walk our shelter dogs, you must be physically capable of managing dogs that can jump, pull and run. You must wear shelter-appropriate attire which includes: closed shoes (no crocs or sandals), socks, long pants, long or short-sleeve tops (no tank tops).
