About Friends of The Montclair Animal Shelter
Approximately 8 million animals enter animal shelter nationwide each year. The economic downturn, coupled with severe cutbacks in state funding, have put an enormous strain on county shelters.
In an effort to address some of the most urgent needs of homeless animals in our very community, Friends of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (FOMTAS), a 501(c)(3) corporation, was created in 2012. FOMTAS supports the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (MTAS), a not-for-profit municipal organization that provides animal control services to the township of Montclair and provides support for approximately 1,000 lost, abandoned and surrendered animals per year.
Since its founding, FOMTAS has provided funds to support extraordinary medical expenses of MTAS animals; education materials for the public; food, supplies and training assistance for MTAS animals being fostered; traps for feral cats being trapped, neutered and then released (TNR); and other costs not covered by the shelter’s budget.
