About Friends of The Montclair Animal ShelterApproximately 8 million animals enter animal shelter nationwide each year. The economic downturn, coupled with severe cutbacks in state funding, have put an enormous strain on county shelters.
In an effort to address some of the most urgent needs of homeless animals in our very community, Friends of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (FOMTAS), a 501(c)(3) corporation, was created in 2012. FOMTAS supports the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (MTAS), a not-for-profit municipal organization that provides animal control services for the town of Montclair and provides support for approximately 1,000 lost, abandoned and surrendered animals per year. Since its founding, FOMTAS has provided funds to support extraordinary medical expenses of MTAS animals; education materials; food, supplies and training assistance for MTAS animals in foster; and other costs not covered by the shelter’s budget. In 2018, FOMTAS funded a critically needed renovation of the shelter building's entire first floor which included the addition of a community room and "real life" rooms where families can meet MTAS animals seeking forever homes. |
