Seniors for SeniorsMontclair seniors are now able to benefit from a pet adoption and foster program matching senior residents with senior dogs or cats and covering animal care expenses for low-income seniors.
The program, funded in part with a Mars Petcare "Better Cities for Pets" grant, includes senior outreach, education, and funds for medical, food and other animal care expenses for both owned and foster animals cared for by seniors in the community. Studies show that pet owners feel more connected to their community. For seniors, pet companions reduce cognitive decline, feelings of isolation and loneliness, increasing opportunities for exercise and socializing. Fostering pets from local shelters provides the much needed love, attention and a peaceful, safe environment that pets need to thrive. Fostering in your home frees up space at the shelter for other pets in need, and prepares them for adoption in a forever home. |
